After following various London based influencers who frequent this fully plant based chain, Club Mexicana has been on the ‘to do’ list for a while now – All too often we end up in a bit of a rush when we visit London and we drift to our usual ‘known’ spots for food. On a recent trip however, we actually had time to factor in some new places.. So it was a obvious that Mexican was going to be on the agenda!
It is such a refreshing thing to actually be able to choose anything from the menu.. At home we forget what a treat it is to have such a choice when we eat out. As a result, we quite often discover (this time was no exception) end up with us over ordering and getting a bit greedy – oops!
We went for the classic nachos to share followed by 2 different options from the taco menu. The nachos were generously portioned, loaded with tangy pink onions, a light vegan ‘queso’, fresh guac and chunky salsa. To be honest, a tray of these to share with a couple of the frozen margaritas would have made a fab pit stop snack from sales shopping – particularly as the location of Kingly court is so central.
Nachos were followed by 2 trays of tacos – Ruby ordered 3 of the BBQ ‘short rib’ and I opted for 3 of the ‘Cheezeburger’ tacos (as mentioned, we could have quite easily ordered all 4 of the taco options on the menu – thankfully common sense clicked in and we just selected one tray each!)
Don’t be fooled by the photo, these tacos might look dainty and a ‘light’ option but they are packed with flavour, and as the options we ordered had a good amount of protein, they were very filling. Ordering the 2 different options between us allowed for a bit of a mix and match. We would definitely recommend going for this tactic when ordering as it allows you to try more of the menu easily without needing to stray into the temptation of ordering double the amount of food that you can actually eat.

The verdict between us was that the BBQ tacos were by far the best flavour combination, just the right amount of sauce and filling. The cheezeburger tacos had all of the right elements but for me there was just a little too much of the ‘queso’ that slightly overpowered them. This is a totally personal preference, someone else may well think this made them all the better. If I was to order these again though (which I would) it would be with the request for a lighter drizzle of the queso, or for it to be popped on the side.
Overall. the food here is a total treat – full of colour, flavour and photogenic in it’s presentation so it will look fab on your Instagram feed too. This central fully plant based food spot is ideal for a either a mid day lunch break with bags full of shopping, pre-theatre dinner or a chilled evening out with a few cocktails.
Note to self- Pop Club Mexicana on the list for a return visit. There is still work to be done to fully ‘road test’ the other menu options – After watching the other customers, and getting a little envious of all other food coming out of the kitchen, it is going to have to be a burrito next time for me (as well as a few more drinkies from the cocktail list) Ruby on the other hand has the churros firmly on her ‘to do’ list.
Price for food: £39.00
